SyteLine 7 is running nearly 10 years behind the rapid and continuous pace of evolving technology. It has always been the recommendation of The Lake Companies to not lag much farther than 3 years from advances in technology as they foster a positive multiplier impact on your daily operational efficiency. This is beyond the substantial capabilities that have been added as a result of SyteLine 8 and SyteLine 9.
There were many fixes in the SyteLine 7 product with SyteLine 7.05.30 being the only version that had reasonably corrected the product and performance issues. Your first consideration when upgrading is to understand this fact and to realize that the age of SyteLine 7 is a detriment to the competitiveness of your company. It is important to understand that SyteLine 7 is very old technology that also carries the burden of a version of SQL server that is no longer supported by Microsoft. Schaper’s decision proved to be the right one and Infor later delivered a very successful SyteLine 8 product, particularly with the release of SyteLine 8.02.
Under the management of Jim Schaper, Infor made a difficult decision to stop the development and delay the delivery of SyteLine 8 until they could calm the waters on SyteLine 7. It was at that time that MAPICS and the SyteLine application were acquired by Infor. There were numerous problems that plagued the product into 2005. Unfortunately, the MAPICS organization decided to move development offshore, which made a difficult situation much worse. Frontstep rushed the product to market in 2001 and in 2003 SyteLine was acquired by MAPICS. SyteLine 7 was the first version in a MS SQL environment and it was not without its challenges. With the advent of SyteLine 7, the application moved from a Progress development platform to a Microsoft-centric development environment. It had versions and releases continuing through 2006. SyteLine 7 was originally released in 2001 by the Frontstep organization.
